Clinically reviewed by Anngela Leone Acupuncture is one of those things that you may be hesitant about at first… and then one day you’re face-down on a heated table wondering why you’ve never felt this relaxed before…

We recently got an email asking about acupuncture, and it reminded us that a lot of people are curious about what it actually is, how it works, and whether it’s just ancient wizardry with really good PR.
At Moon Rabbit, we think of acupuncture less like “fixing” the body and more like creating the conditions for healing. Like watering a plant that’s been quietly struggling in the corner.
The body is incredibly intelligent.. sometimes it just needs support, rest, and a gentle nudge in the right direction.
So let’s talk about it like we’re sitting together over tea.
Acupuncture is a healing practice that began in China over 2,500 years ago. Tiny, hair-thin needles are placed in specific points on the body to help restore balance, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
And before you ask: No, the needles are not like getting a shot. Most people are shocked by how gentle they are. Sometimes you barely feel them at all. Sometimes there’s a little zing or warmth and that is completely normal but more often than not, someone falls asleep mid-treatment (we consider that a professional compliment).
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, acupuncture helps regulate the flow of energy or Qi through pathways in the body called meridians. When things get stuck, depleted, overheated, or out of balance, symptoms show up. Pain, stress, headaches, digestive issues, poor sleep… the body has many creative ways of waving tiny red flags.
Acupuncture is one way we help the body remember how to come back into harmony.
Now, modern science explains acupuncture a little differently. Researchers have found that acupuncture may affect the nervous system, circulation, inflammation, hormones, and the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals.

Research has shown acupuncture may help with:
Back and neck pain
Knee pain and arthritis
Post-surgery pain
Headaches and migraines
Seasonal allergies
Stress and anxiety
Nausea from cancer treatment
Women’s health concerns and more
But honestly? One of the things people tell us most often after a treatment is:
“I just feel more like myself.”
And that’s the part that can be hard to measure in a research study.
Yes, there are needles.. But they are teeny tiny accompanied by warm blankets, deep naps, unexpected emotional releases, dramatic sighs, and occasionally someone saying:
“Wow… I didn’t realize how stressed I was until I relaxed.”
Which is basically modern life in one sentence.
If you’ve been acupuncture-curious but nervous to try it, that’s completely normal. You don’t need to “believe” in it. You don’t need to understand all the meridians or memorize the Five Elements. You just have to show up as you are.
We’ll meet you there. 🌙🐇
