In a previous post, we explored the deeper layers of the Four Pillars of Destiny—moving beyond the surface of your birth year into a richer, more nuanced understanding of who you are. If you haven’t read it yet, you can explore it here: Beyond The Year You Were Born: Understanding the 4 Pillars of Destiny. From there, the next question that naturally comes:

How does the energy of this year interact with me?

This year carries the dynamic, expansive, and at times volatile energy of the Fire Horse—a combination that amplifies movement, passion, visibility, and transformation. Fire fuels expression and the Heart, while the Horse (associated with the Fire element and peak Yang) brings motion, independence, and a drive toward freedom.

For some, this energy feels like wind at your back. For others, it can feel like being pushed too fast, too far.

In Chinese medicine and Five Element theory, balance is everything. The key is not to resist the Fire Horse—but to harmonize with it based on your own constitutional nature.

Let’s explore how each of the 12 animals may experience this year—and how to stay rooted, nourished, and aligned.

Rat (Water)

1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020

The Rat sits in direct opposition to the Horse, creating tension along the Water–Fire axis. This can show up as restlessness, emotional fluctuation, or a sense of being out of sync.

Support your balance:

  • Nourish Kidney energy: rest, deep hydration, mineral-rich foods

  • Avoid overextending socially or emotionally

  • Gentle, inward practices like acupuncture, meditation or yin yoga

  • Foods: bone broth, black beans, seaweed, kidney beans, sesame, lightly salted foods

Ox (Earth)

1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

The Ox prefers steadiness, while the Fire Horse brings rapid movement. This may feel destabilizing or frustrating.

Support your balance:

  • Strengthen Spleen Qi with warm, cooked foods

  • Create small, consistent routines amidst change

  • Practice flexibility—both physically and mentally

  • Foods: root vegetables, squash, sweet potatoes, rice, oats, gently spiced stews

Tiger (Wood)

1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

The Tiger resonates with the Horse’s momentum and may feel energized, bold, and ready to act.

Support your balance:

  • Channel energy into clear goals to avoid burnout

  • Support Liver Qi with movement and creative expression

  • Remember to pace yourself

  • Foods: leafy greens, sprouts, citrus, lightly sautéed vegetables, herbs like mint and basil

Rabbit (Wood)

1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023

The Rabbit may feel both inspired and slightly overwhelmed by the intensity of Fire Horse energy.

Support your balance:

  • Protect your nervous system with quiet time

  • Engage in gentle movement like walking in nature

  • Keep boundaries around your time and energy

  • Foods: steamed greens, carrots, beets, pears, lightly cooked vegetables.

Dragon (Earth)

1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024

The Dragon can harness this year’s dynamic energy for transformation—but may overreach.

Support your balance:

  • Ground through breathwork and embodiment practices

  • Avoid taking on too many projects at once

  • Support digestion and Earth element stability

  • Foods: congee, sweet root vegetables, legumes, warming soups, ginger in moderation

Snake (Fire)

1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025

The Snake shares the Fire element, making this a powerful year of visibility and growth—but also intensity.

Support your balance:

  • Protect Heart Yin with rest and cooling foods

  • Avoid overstimulation and overexertion

  • Cultivate stillness alongside action

  • Foods: cucumber, watermelon, bitter greens, mung beans, chrysanthemum tea

Horse (Fire)

1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026

This is your year—but with that comes amplification. Everything is turned up.

Support your balance:

  • Be mindful of burnout and emotional excess

  • Prioritize sleep and hydration

  • Stay connected to grounding practices

  • Foods: cooling and hydrating foods—melon, cucumber, coconut water, lightly cooked greens

Goat (Earth)

 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027

The Goat may feel supported by the Horse, but can become scattered if not anchored.

Support your balance:

  • Focus on nourishment—both physical and emotional

  • Maintain steady rhythms in daily life

  • Avoid overcommitting

  • Foods: warm grains, soups, roasted vegetables, dates, squash

Monkey (Metal)

1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 2028

Metal can be challenged by strong Fire, leading to pressure or internal friction.

Support your balance:

  • Support Lung Qi with breathwork and fresh air

  • Let go of perfectionism

  • Create space for reflection and release

  • Foods: white foods—pear, daikon, onion, garlic, almonds, lightly spicy foods

Rooster (Metal)

1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029

The Rooster may feel the heat of this year as stress or irritability if not balanced.

Support your balance:

  • Keep routines that support clarity and order

  • Practice cooling techniques (breath, hydration)

  • Release rigidity where possible

  • Foods: pear, lotus root, radish, white mushrooms, mild pungent foods

Dog (Earth)

1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030

The Dog often resonates well with the Horse, bringing loyalty and grounding to the fire.

Support your balance:

  • Stay connected to purpose and community

  • Avoid taking on others’ burdens

  • Support digestion and Earth element

  • Foods: nourishing stews, root vegetables, grains, pumpkin, chickpeas

Pig (Water)

1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031

The Pig may feel the Fire as draining or overwhelming if not properly supported.

Support your balance:

  • Prioritize rest and replenishment

  • Protect your energy boundaries

  • Engage in calming, nourishing practices

  • Foods: soups, broths, sea vegetables, black beans, hydrating foods
